San Francisco has provided the world with a ton of great dream pop bands over the years, and Li Xi is no exception. The quartet creates musical space in which open ears can wander layering boy/girl vocals, dreamy electronics and jangly guitar sounds. Li Xi combine '60s psychedelia with contemporary electronics and vintage synthesizers. The band started out of a friendship between singer Maryann Tran and guitarist James Vernon as members of Sleeptalks, but changed direction and name in June of 2012 with the addition of Will Cline and Dennis Galway. Named after a Vietnamese term, Li Xi is translated in English as "Red Envelope." A nostalgic relic of Maryann's childhood, red envelopes are given out for good luck and prosperity during the Lunar New Year. Li Xi's latest 7”, titled Macro Garden, is set to be released on limited edition vinyl exclusively through 20 Sided Records. They're currently working on a full-length record with Monte Vallier of Ruminator Audio in San Francisco which is expected for release Summer of 2013. |
