WHO ARE THE AMPERSANDS? The Ampersands are a New York/New England studio outfit led by singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalists Aaron McQuade and Jim Pace, who have been making music together for more than half their lives. Sometimes compared to Big Star and members of the Elephant 6 collective, The Ampersands make music that combines unique hooks with some of the most curiosity-provoking lyrics being written today. Aaron and Jim believe that music should do more than just get stuck in your head — it should do something constructive while it's in there. IS THIS MY ADVENTURE TOO? Yes it is. This Is Your Adventure Too is the latest album from The Ampersands, due out on October 30th and featuring the newest member of the team, co-producer and mixer/masterer Jamie Hill (Jens Lekman, Nada Surf, Shannon Curtis). With their first release the band set out with drummer Corrine Gonzales and producer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Apples in Stereo, Phish) to create a great garage-pop record. On this one Aaron and Jim set out to create a great living-room-pop record. This Is Your Adventure Too features tight, smart harmonies and rock-solid musicianship, with each song thoughtfully structured around its theme. Yes, there are some songs about relationships, but there are also songs about dealing with depression, feelings of abandonment, and being constrained by one's upbringing. Plus references to Jewish folklore. What more could you want? DISCOGRAPHY And (Stringshot Records, 2008) YOU SHOULD AGREE WITH THESE PEOPLE "Lush, imaginative songwriting ensconced in deceptively infectious pop. Consider the Ampersands a gateway drug back into sincere music, if you've recently found yourself straying." --Devon Maloney, writer (Billboard, SPIN, Rolling Stone, Village Voice) "Really, really good power-pop" -- Larry Flick, Morning Jolt - Sirius XM Radio (Winterspring is) one of the Best Songs of the Decade (2000-2009) -- Dan Weiss, Kiss Out The Jams "If you're into no-holds-barred holy-shit-these-assholes-are-talented Fuck-I-wish-I-could-stuff-them-and-mount-them-above-my-knitting-chair I would like to recommend The Ampersands"—SYFFAL |
