09.09.08.08 Waxwane (Sargent House) Love You Moon is Matt Embree, and Matt Embree has, in the past ten years, established himself as one of his generation’s and genre’s (if, that is, you want to confine his art to one genre) most politically outspoken and musically diverse singer/songwriters. Through his work in Califorina-based punk/dub/rock band RX Bandits and other projects like The Sound of Animals Fighting, Apotheke and Technology, Embree has developed a strong and empassioned following that thrives on experiencing his physically and musically explosive live shows—Embree’s projects aren’t just for experiencing live, however. For him, musicianship is paramount, and the reason why RX Bandits’ 5 th album 2006's "...And the Battle Begun", and their previous release 2003's "'The Resignation' were both recorded live. Community is important to Embree, who, along with fellow musicians and friends in Seal Beach, CA, even started his own record label aimed at releasing records Embree feels are progressive and positive in 2002: MDB Recordings. The label is run out of Embree’s garage studio and doubles as mailorder headquarters—this new project, Love You Moon, is being released on Cathy Pellow’s (Refused TV) Sargent House label, however, as the label is a logical extension of the hands-on, DIY spirit that Embree and his community operate from. |
